"My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation
is from him. He only is my rock and my salvation: he is my defence; I shall not
be moved. In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my
refuge, is in God. Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart
before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah."
Psalm 62:5-8
Amy Carmichael, missionary to India wrote, “Blessed are the
single-hearted, for they shall enjoy much peace…If you refuse to be hurried and
pressed, if you stay your soul on God, nothing can keep you from that clearness
of spirit which is life and peace. In that stillness you know what His will
is.”
We live in an impatient society. We want what we want, and
we want it right now. There is even a pot roast now that you can cook in a
microwave in less than ten minutes—but it’s not as good as the real thing. When
we refuse to wait on God and allow Him to work according to His schedule, when
we take matters into our own hands, the result is always disaster.
We see this illustrated so clearly in the life of Abraham.
Because he had not yet received the son of promise, he listened to Sarah’s plan
and had a son with Hagar. Some four thousand years later our world is still
dealing with the fallout from that impatient decision as the descendants of
Isaac and the descendants of Ishmael struggle for control of the land of Israel .
Take advantage of every opportunity and open door that God
places before you. But if you do not see the doors opening according to your
schedule, take heart. God knows exactly where you are. If you wait on His
timing, you will find Him to be a refuge and defense in every test that you face.
Today's Rooted Principle:
Rest in God today. He is never late, and in His time, He
will work His purpose in your life.
